Spring Arbor men’s soccer plays #8 seed Southern Polytechnic State University in NAIA Tournament

The men’s soccer team, fresh off their double overtime victory over Indiana Wesleyan University, which launched the Cougars into their first NAIA National Championship appearance since the 1970s, will be heading to Marietta, Georgia for a game against hosting Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU).

The SPSU Hornets finished the season with an overall record of 11-4-1 and 7-3-1 in their conference. They were the recipients of an at-large bid for the tournament after being defeated by NAIA ranked eighth Auburn Montgomery in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament by a score of 2-1. Until the final, the Hornets cruised through the tournament defeating Belhaven University and the University of Mobile, 3-0 and 1-0, respectively.

The Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 16-3-2 and were seeded second in the Crossroads League Tournament. This is the Cougars best overall record since 2006, when they finished the season 14-6. David Edwardson, a junior transfer from Jackson Community College, was named 2012 Crossroads League Player of the Year. Over the course of conference play he had four goals and on assist. Edwardson was also named to Crossroads 1st team All-League. Senior Godwin Addai, was also given Crossroads League honors, by being named to the 2nd team All-Crossroads League team.

The winner of this match will advance to the NAIA National Championship final site and faceoff against the winner of the match between #9 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan and unseeded Hastings (Neb) on Tuesday, November 27 at 4:00 pm.
