Indians end road trip with two victories

After a losing two of three games against the Toledo Mud Hens, the Indianapolis Indians won two games against the Louisville Bats on the road.

The rehabbing Gerrit Cole led the Tribe to a 9-0 victory, both from the mound and the plate on Friday night. His final pitching line was seven scoreless innings with five hits and one walk. At the plate, Cole was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

The majority of the Indians’ offense came from the seven doubles the team had. Besides Cole, Tony Sanchez, Andrew Lambo, Tommy Field and Robert Andino all had doubles and Chris McGuiness had two. Chase d’Arnaud added a triple into the mix of extra-base hits by the Indians.

The Tribe’s runs were scored over three innings – the fourth, fifth and sixth. They scored four runs in the fourth, four more in the fifth before tacking on the last run in the sixth. The nine runs were driven in by d’Arnaud (2), Sanchez (3), McGuiness (2), Field (1) and Andino (1).  They also outhit the Bats 18 to 5.

Josh Wall and Andy Oliver came in to close out the game, both pitching one inning, and completing the shutout.

The winning continued on Saturday night with Rafael Perez on the mound in an 8-2 victory. Perez earned his second win after pitching 6.1 innings with two runs, both earned, on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Josh Kinney, Oliver and John Holdzkom closed out the game.

It was another great night for McGuiness, who was 2-for-3 with a double and home run, scoring two runs and driving in three. d’Arnaud added an RBI of his own, while Jose Tabata, Dean Anna, Brent Morel, Elias Diaz and Mel Rojas scored the Tribe’s other six runs.

The Indians are back home for a six games series starting on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. They host the Bats for the first four games before the Mud Hens in the last two. They will then have a short three-game road trip against the Columbus Clippers.
