Indians drop two more games; six games out of first

The Indianapolis Indians ended their short three-game win streak in an 11-0 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens on Wednesday night. The two teams met up again on Thursday night with similar results. The Tribe fell to the Mud Hens 10-6.

Adrian Sampson made his Triple-A debut after being promoted from the Altoona Curve. He got roughed up early and his final line read: 3.2 innings pitched, six runs (five earned), 10 hits and three walks.

In relief, Vin Mazzaro gave up four runs in 2.2. innings pitched, while Josh Kinney held the Mud Hens scoreless in 1.2 innings of work.

Brent Morel and new infielder Tommy Field both had two RBIs on Thursday. Jose Tabata was 2-for-4 with one RBI, but scored two runs. Tony Sanchez hit a solo home run in the eighth inning for his ninth home run of the season. Field, Morel and Tabata all had two hits along with Chase d’Arnaud, who has hits in 25 of his last 31 starts.

Gerrit Cole will continue his rehab trip for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night when the Tribe begins a three-game series against the Louisville Bats. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

Brent Morel and Jose Tabata

Combined the Indians’ third baseman and right fielder were 4-for-8 with a double by Tabata, triple by Morel, three runs scored and three runs driven in. They kept the Tribe in the game offensively on a night when they Mud Hens were offensively dominant.
