SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Tyler Glasnow (PIT) made his third straight scoreless start in Friday’s 2-1 loss, Joely Rodriguez (PIT) picked up his third victory in as many appearances during Saturdays’ 12-3 blowout and the Scottsdale Scorpions (8-9) split their weekend with the Surprise Saguaros (7-9) and the Glendale Desert Dogs (7-8).

Pirates Minor League Pitcher of the Year Glasnow continued his dominant AFL run by recording six of his nine outs via strikeout through his third straight appearance of three shutout innings. The right-hander originally debuted this fall with one run in 2/3 frames on Oct. 7, but has since blanked the opposition during each of the last nine innings on 12 punchouts and just three walks.

Greg Bird (NYY) drove in Scottsdale’s lone run on Friday with his grounder up the middle in the first. Surprise’s Pat Cantwell (TEX) tied the game on a fourth-inning RBI single and Jesse Winker (CIN) tripled and scored for the game-winner in the fifth.

Tribe starter Adrian Sampson then tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth to nearly match Glasnow’s performance.

Saturday’s blowout featured Pirates southpaw Rodriguez as the beneficiary of good pitching and even better run support. While his offense pounded out five scores as backing, Rodriguez bent for his lone run and all three hits in the first inning before rebounding to retire the next 10 batters through his four-frame outing.

With the effort, Rodriguez is now 3-0 with just one run in 11 innings (0.82 ERA) over his last three starts.

Fellow Bucco farmhand Dan Gamache concluded his red-hot weekend at 4-for-7 with a double, two walks, two runs scored and one RBI in two games. He led Saturday’s charge at the plate by reaching four times and scoring twice on his pair of base knocks and free passes.
