Bell & Bird help deliver 6-2 All-Star win (AFL Recap 11/1)

recap-11-1-afl3SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Pirates prospect Josh Bell reached base in each of his four plate appearances and Yankees farmhand Greg Bird homered to help lead the AFL East All-Stars to a 6-2 victory over the AFL West on Saturday at Salt River Fields.

Bird opened the second with a solo homer to center field that jump-started the East’s offense. Scottsdale teammate Brandon Nimmo (NYM) singled and scored and Bell coaxed the first of his three walks prior to coming all the way around as part of a four-run frame that put the East out front 4-0.

Scorpions left fielder Roman Quinn (PHI) plated a fifth East run with a one-base knock in the sixth. Bell then singled in the eighth before being brought plate ward by Quinn’s second RBI base hit in as many innings to boost the lead to 6-2.

East starter and top prospect Archie Bradley (ARI) allowed only two runners in two scoreless innings to earn the win. His bullpen combined for just two runs – only one of which was earned – over seven innings of relief.

Tribe starter Adrian Sampson entered just two outs away from nailing down the team’s victory, inducing a routine flyout before handing the ball to Tyson Perez (HOU) for the final, closing effort.

Cincinnati’s Nick Howard took the loss for the West with four runs on four hits and two walks in just 1 2/3 innings of work.
